JAMAICA GARBAGE MESS – DOS NEEDS TO DO BETTER JOB OF ENFORCEMENT & ELECTED OFFICIALS MUST STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND ADDRESS THIS BLIGHT IN OUR COMMUNITY

GARBAGE EVERYWHERE. Litter all over, overflowing public garbage cans with household garbage (especially on Hillside Ave between 169th St and 173St) and constant illegal dumping, especially in front of vacant lots.

First off our highly paid elected officials, along with DOS Commissioner Kathryn Garcia NEEDS to address this problem in Jamaica and DOS needs to do a better job, especially of enforcing litter laws and household garbage in public cans that are known for this. I see DOS enforcement agents always zooming around the hood and some just sitting in their cars napping or doing nothing. One agent sitting in a car on Guy Brewer and Jamaica I had approached several weeks ago to tell him of all this garbage dumped in a doorway on Guy Brewer. He said he would check it out, yet the whole time I was there, he never once got out of his car at all.

Downtown Jamaica, UNACCEPTABLE

Downtown Jamaica, UNACCEPTABLE. After telling a DOS enforcement agent who was sitting in his car about this, he shook his head, YET, the whole time I was there, never once stepped out of his car to even see what I was talking about.

A vacant lot at 170-19 89th Ave on a residential block is always having garbage dumped in front of it. On June 3rd I reported on 311 and here was the response:

06/03/2016 8:22:48 PM
REQUEST TYPE: Dirty Condition
DETAIL: Sidewalk Dirty
INCIDENT ADDRESS: 170-19 89 AVENUE
INCIDENT BOROUGH: QUEENS
STATUS: The Department of Sanitation investigated this complaint and found no violation at the location.
LAST UPDATED ON: 06/06/2016 12:00:00 PM

REALLY, look at the photo below that I took on 6.10.16. Does that look like NO VIOLATION. In fact since I first reported it, it has gotten worse.

One reader in the area near Hillside Avenue had this to say:

The NW corner of 169th St & Hillside (just in front of that corner’s subway entrance) is unbelievable – the city bin was filled to overflowing, with at least TWICE that amount piled up around it at ~ 7 this morning.
Almost ALL of it was in smaller grocery bags – just the type that someone eating in his taxi all day, or a small business, would generate.  There must be heavy fines on the books for ‘public disposal of private/business garbage’ – NOT litter – and the Dept of Sanitation MUST be familiar with this corner – and the others on either side of HIllside for blocks east and west of this corner.  WHY are they unable – for just one ~ 24 hr period – to have an inspector in plain clothes do nothing but issue dozens of tickets to the people responsible for this DAILY disgrace?
The fines for this one day ALONE would cover the salary for that one agent. It boggles the mind how totally helpless the city is in punishing those responsible for this.

YEP, it certainly boggles the mind alright or maybe it is just “occasional grumblings by a few locals”. It cannot be too damn hard to catch this constant bullshit or will that interfere with some civil rights that allow people to be slobs.

  1. The city is letting the town rot so the areas value can be depreciated so it can be bought on the cheap for the predator developers. From the sanitation to the police, they seem to be on lockdown. It’s not quite like burning the Bronx but stinking and fouling up the dirty southeast will suffice for these fiends. I seen better regulation and justice in Alice’s Wonderland.

I’m telling you, it’s the nexus of government, venture capital and real estate that is fostering the new economic bubble. It’s not only happening here either.

    More to come…

    • I always thought that. I mean what other reason would you allow a community to deteriorate. And we are not even talking about the big difficult problems like poverty, homeless, etc, we are talking about illegal truck driving on residential streets, garbage & litter, illegal conversions, etc. Let’s face it, if you really wanted to stop illegal truck driving on residential streets, it would STOP within a week. If you really wanted to put a stop to car dealers and auto body shops putting cars and smashed cars on sidewalks on streets (in regard to smashed and unlicensed), you could stop that within week. Park Slope, Long Beach, West Village, etc would never have this nonsense and if there was an instance, it would stop immediately.

And yes, this is going on all over the country in black communities, I mean Detroit, how does one allow a major city to fall completely apart. What is going on in Flint. Camden NJ, Ferguson MI and some areas of my hometown of Pittsburgh, especially the small steel mill towns which now are mostly black and in deplorable conditions.

Bernie was spot on with the REVOLUTION and I think Bernie has made history with this campaign and with the many young people he has brought into the fray.
