REALLY, ANOTHER FUCKING JAMAICA HOTEL ON CRAPPY BLOCK

Just the description alone for yet another hotel sounds shitty.

Developer Riverbrook Equities has filed new building applications for a 10-story hotel, situated mid-block between 97th and Liberty avenues. The 100-foot-tall building would hold 30,000 square feet of commercial space and 86 rooms. The first floor will have a lobby and four hotel rooms, followed by nine to 12 rooms on each of the upper floors. The cellar will have a breakfast area and four more rooms, and an eight-car parking lot will round out the project. Manish Savani Architect applied for the permits.

Savani office’s is in Jamaica on Hillside Ave and has been involved in other South Jamaica hotels, including the not yet opened Days Inn at 95-65 Tuckerton  Street in the middle of an Industrial area.

Although this hotel is a few blocks from Sutphin Blvd, there is no anything really near it except some houses on the other side of the street and situated between this hotel is a Car Wash and an Auto Body Shop, just what I look for when booking a hotel. So many of these places are placed in crap areas with not much around, making me wonder, what the future will be for them.

Christ, there will be more hotels in Jamaica than beauty & supply stores, 99 cent stores and hair places and you know how much of those places litter downtown Jamaica.Hotel on 147pl

Although we’d love to see more residential development in downtown Jamaica, much of the new construction in the eastern Queens neighborhood is tied to hotels and tourism. The latest new hotel is coming to 97-26 147th Place, on a lot a few blocks south of the Jamaica LIRR station.

Developer Riverbrook Equities has filed new building applications for a 10-story hotel, situated mid-block between 97th and Liberty avenues. The 100-foot-tall building would hold 30,000 square feet of commercial space and 86 rooms.

Like most of downtown Jamaica, this block was upzoned in 2007 to allow mixed-use residential and commercial development. Two large residential complexes are eventually going to rise nearby: the 580-unit Crossing at Jamaica Station and a 26-story residential tower at 147-20 94th Avenue. However, most of the projects planned in this transit-rich area are hotels, like a 27-story Hilton Garden Inn.

Riverbrook picked up the 5,000-square-foot lot for $2,500,000 last month. A church used to occupy the 5,000-square-foot property, but they sold it it to the Evangelical Christian Credit Union for $1.1 million. An LLC bought the two-story building a year later for $1.3 million and ultimately sold it to Riverbrook.

The Midtown-based firm already owns several budget hotels around Queens, including a newly constructed Days Inn located a few blocks away from this site, on Tuckerton Street.
