NEW FRIDAY LOCATION FOR JAMAICA FARMERS MARKET (PARSONS BETWEEN JAMAICA & ARCHER AVE) FUCKING SUCKS, WHAT THE HELL WHERE THEY THINKING

parsonsFor the 42 season of the Jamaica Farmers Market, which runs Fridays & Saturdays thru end of November, for some unexplained reason, the Friday location has been changed from the nice relaxing and quiet 160th Street near the Harvest Room, to the horrible busy heavy traffic Parsons Blvd between Jamaica & Archer Avenue, one of the worst intersections, plus that intersection if so fucked up condition wise, like most Jamaica intersections and streets. Uneven pavement, cracks and pot holes. What the fuck were they thinking and on Friday too, when traffic is horrible.

One reader had this to say about the idiotic move.

The only thought that came into my head as I read your report of the new Farmer’s Market location is ‘shit happens’: there is no rational or reasonable explanation for this. Someone made this decision, seemingly without any community input, and somehow it’s a ‘done deal’: ‘shit happens’.

First: the former location, north of Jamaica Ave on 160th St in front of the Harvest Room entrance, was an excellent location: on a ‘protected’ street just one ‘avenue’ long – from Jamaica to 90th – so constant insane ‘through-traffic’ was never a safety issue or distraction.  In fact, this is the reason that this block is set aside each year for special children’s events/displays during the August Jamaica Jams street festival.

I couldn’t think of a worse location for a Farmer’s Market than Parsons and Archer, and not only for the pavement conditions cited above.

First: this is one of the busiest subway stops in Queens: a constant crush of people coming and going.
Second: that corner – along Archers AND along Parsons – is a non-stop staging-area for lines of ‘dollar-van’ SE Queens shuttles.
I can’t ever remember a time – day or night – when navigating that area wasn’t some damn obstacle course for anyone on foot.  People want some degree of buffer from traffic insanity – pedestrian or motor-vehicle – when they shop, especially senior citizens.

I can’t imagine how the above negatives can be controlled without considerable sidewalk/traffic control – ie, police – something that was TOTALLY unnecessary at the previous location.  This is just a totally bad, WTF decision.

Most Jamaica decisions are fucking bad, hence why Jamaica is a ghetto.parsons2
