As usual, I am sure I will get some slack on this, but I really don’t give a shit, especially living in this fucked up community known as Jamaica, where we have criminals on the street, criminals in public office and criminals at the church pulpit and most folks think that is okay.
I am on a rampage with the bullshit in black communities that goes on and on and on and on for years and decades and actually seems to be getting worse as opposed to better. After reading that ridiculous Queens Chronicle article ( http://www.qchron.com/editions/eastern/families-pols-rally-against-gun-violence/article_b5051998-fd82-5290-9213-fdddd9fcd23c.html) about gun violence and the usual crew of do nothing, inept and corrupt local Southeast Queens politicians like Meeks, Comrie, Wills, Cook and others yammer on about gun violence in Jamaica and attributing it to lack of gun control laws, Republicans, loopholes, the NRA, aliens from outer space, witchcraft and every other bullshit thing they can think of, I and others (including those in the black community) need to call them and leaders in the black community on their bullshit of avoiding the real issue. Because none of those things have a damn thing to do with the violence and gun shootings in Jamaica, because as I said before, if that was the case ALL COMMUNITIES, including white communities would have young people killing other young people every other day on the streets and that is not the case with other communities. Sure black communities have gotten a raw deal from government to the local crooked elected leaders like the dirty Southeast Queens crew, but at the end of the day, when does one eventually begin to take responsibility for their environment and the culture that has been created in it that worships guns, violence, bling, and other nonsense and has no respect for another human being that they would pull out a gun and shoot point blank because someone looked at them wrong or “dissed me” bullshit.
One individual in the community put it this way:
These communities don’t have a ‘gun problem’, they have a ‘culture problem’. The culture worships unearned-money, misogyny, drugs, violence and guns. It doesn’t care about education, personal responsibility, civic duty or respect for any authority. This is a perfect recipe for educational failure, rampant illegitimacy, family abandonment, chronic unemployment, incarceration and early death, and the statistics in these areas show that despite pouring trillions of dollars of government money into programs ‘instituted to address these injustices’, the situation has just been getting worse for the past ~ 40+ years.
Every time you get the same damn line-up of clergy, lifetime political hacks, and other honored ‘concerned members of the community’ for the latest photo-op, repeating the same idiotic mantra of ‘this gun violence must stop’, not a single one of them has ever had the courage to confront the origins of the societal rot that is pulling the trigger.
Guns aren’t killing people: depraved people kill people.
Sorry folks, but you cannot really argue too much with that individuals point of view, which I pretty much share as well, especially living in a community of color and seeing firsthand the nonsense that goes on in the street and in the political arena which actually allows this type of environment to thrive by DOING NOTHING.
And while we had another senseless & horrible killing of two black man, Philando Castile & Alton Sterling, by white police officers and senseless and horrible it was, it also angers me how people refer to Sterling as a “great guy who wouldn’t hurt a fly” or as yet another “gentle giant”, when the truth of the matter he was far from a gentle giant. Sterling was a sex offender who at the age of 20 got a 14 year old girl pregnant and while he was a father of five, lived in a homeless shelter, had a couple of domestic abuse charges, aggravated assaults and several convictions of burglary and other crimes and while none of this makes it okay that the cops shot this man in cold blood, never-the-less, the image of the gentle giant who would not hurt a fly is no more truth than it was with Michael Brown, so let’s not make out like the very liberal media likes to do, that this guy was on the up and up, far from it. Plus the fact that he did have an illegal gun on him at the time. All of this is fact and public knowledge, including his criminal record. But again I will say this, what happened to him was horrific, but let’s not overlook who he was too. And this tends to also be problematic in the black community of just making like an individual with a criminal history does not have one. AND AGAIN, don’t lump the Sterlings or Browns of this world with the Trayvon Martins of this world either, it is apples and oranges.
And one last thing to Ms. Beyonce who wrote “We are sick and tired of the killings of young men and women in our communities.” And exactly which community are you referring to, your gated community, because Beyonce, you have no idea what it is like to live in a community like Jamaica. When was the last time anyone was shot in your hood. So save that crap for your next mediocre CD.
So this brings it full circle back to this issue at hand, that there is a major problem in the black community and has been for a long time and it is not getting addressed like it should be, by the people in it, the elected officials and the leaders. So when this happens again and it no doubt will, the same old conversation will be held, except the REAL CONVERSATION that NEEDS to be had.
