I will keep hitting on this blatant lack of enforcement and not properly addressing of a dangerous issue to pedestrians and the community at large in Jamaica concerning dangerous truck driving in the downtown area, WHICH should NOT have one single tractor trailer going through it, especially private waste trucks. All of these trucks should be using the outskirts near highways. Yet many trucks use our residential streets 24/7 (as I have continually documented) and the total lack of insight that went into making streets like 168 St, Merrick Blvd and Parsons truck routes are mind boggling. 168 St goes right through a heavily pedestrian area (as does Parsons) and Merrick Blvd not only has that badly planned bus depot on it, but the Queens Public Library is directly across from it, where large dangerous tractor trailers trucks fly and I mean fly by on a street that again should not have been a truck route. I mean one of the most heavily used libraries in the city with large amounts of children and elderly and yet large dangerous trucks are allowed to use this. Why are any of these streets truck routes. Hillside Avenue has been turned into a major disaster with many of these large tractor trailer waste trucks and others.
I cannot imagine that his would have been given a go ahead in Forest Hills, LIC, Park Slope or a white upper middle class community. Do you see this type of activity on Austin Street in Forest Hills, Vernon Blvd in LIC, 5th Street in Park Slope. Jamaica Avenue is a congestive mess to begin with, what with various cars, buses, livery cabs, taxi’s, vans, local trucks and then to have large tractor trailers trucks cutting through it, where there is tons of foot traffic. MAJOR NEGLECT and poor planning, but then it is a community of color and who gives a shit about those communities, certainly not our hypocritical elected officials who have yet put this on the top of their list (hell, it is not even on their list).
Plenty of blame to go around for an issue that I have been documenting for about 4 years now, almost daily, and for an issue that has been going on in this community way before that and the powers that be are well aware of this and their neglect in this community of color.
Mayor deBlaso & his Vision BIG-TIME Zero, Queens Borough President Melinda Katz, DOT Commissioner Polly Trottenberg, DOT Borough Commissioner Nicole Garcia, NYPD Commissioner William Bratton, Community Board 12, local elected officials Senator Leroy Comrie, Councilmembers I. Daneek Miller & Ruben Wills, Assembly Member Alicia Hyndamn & Vivian Cook, Congressman Gregory Meeks and many other so-called leaders of this community.
You all should be held on criminal charges for this elderly man who will no doubt lose his legs.
So is this all part of you Jamaica Now Non-Action Plan? Along with illegal parking of these trucks in LIRR tunnels and on our streets, the take-over of thug auto body shops who have turned our streets/sidewalks into junkyards with little to no enforcement of a law regarding this? That Jamaica Plan.
