EVEN JAMAICA’S PRESENTATION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY PARISH (PARSONS & 89 AVE) IS NOT SACRED AS TRASH GALORE ABOUNDS

Presentation of The Blessed Virgin Mary Parish. Parsons Blvd and 89 Ave.

The area over by Parsons Blvd and 89th Ave is getting awful as far as litter, garbage and quality of life (and Dallas BBQ is opening up right across the street in the former City Rib/Moda Grill). But it is no surprise, since 1) many residents are just plain fucking slobs and 2) the bigger problem is the number of homeless shelters right in that area which has many problematic people living in them including the YMCA on Parsons, which houses homeless folks. Every time I am in that area, there is ALWAYS some kind of nonsense, ALWAYS.

And Dallas BBQ is going to have outdoor sidewalk seating there. Let’s see how that goes. Wait till customers are being bothered by all the homeless, drug addicts and other assorted problematic folks in that area.

From a regular reader and area resident:

A garbage can and two recycle bins and slob still have to throw shit on the ground. Says much about the people in the area and the people who come through here.

Jamaica’s outdoor toilet.

DOT or National Grid just leave their crap behind. Why bother picking it up and taking it with you, when you can just trash it in this community. Wonder if they would do that in Forest Hills.

Nothing is sacred in Jamaica, not even the Presentation of The Blessed Virgin Mary Parish on Parsons Blvd. As I rode my bike this morning to work down 89th Ave, I was very disturbed by what I witnessed. The whole area was trashed! As I was taking photos the odor of urine and feces filled the air, along with a swarm of flies. As you can see by on of my photos the stand up citizens of Jamaica were using the side of the church as a toilet.

  1. This problem is not going to be remedied any time soon, and if DeBlasio implements his ‘master plan’ of ramming-through ~ 90 additional shelters, you can bet it will only get worse.
The main source of the litter, public urination, and occasional harassment on that corner is the adjacent El Camino shelter on that block.
For anyone with long memories of this area in the ’60’s, it is a sad, sad decline.
The ~ 13 story condo directly across 89th Av from the Church, and the similar, larger building around the corner on Parsons – across from Moda – went up in those years, and were considered the finest rentals in downtown Jamaica. The entire downtown was pristine – decent businesses everywhere.
You might as well be talking about another damn planet these days.
